One thing that has always been a huge annoyance to me is the fact that my investment accounts don't typically sync correctly. So far, I think it's okay, but not spectacular. I pulled the trigger on Quicken 2018 for Mac. This results in the cost basis of existing lots to be overstated. If you acquire new shares on that date by purchase or reinvesting the dividend, they will be included in the calculation. Both versions include all shares held on the date that the return of capital is recorded when calculating the per share adjustment to the cost basis.

There is one problem with a return of capital in both the Mac and Windows versions of Quicken. The Mac version doesn't have any support for tax-free income other than a return of capital dividend. If you invest in a municipal bond mutual fund that generates tax-free dividends that are reinvested in the mutual fund, the dividends will be reported as taxable income.

The investment transactions needed for investing in mutual funds are present in the Mac version with one exception. If you invest only in mutual funds using the Mac version of Quicken isn't a problem. I need to use the Windows version to record the acquisition and divestiture transactions and then import them into the Mac version of Quicken.

My investment accounts have been averaging 3-4 corporate acquisitions or divestitures for the last 5 years. The Mac version has yet to implement the corporate acquisition and divestiture investment transactions. The reason for continuing to use the Windows version of Quicken is that most of my holdings are in individual stocks. The Windows version I run in a VMware Fusion virtual machine. I use both the Mac and Windows versions of the new Quicken release.
